For everyone food is essential for life, and for some people food is one of the greatest joys of their life. But for athletes it’s even more than that. It is just one of the many tools to help them get the most out of their training, and perhaps more importantly, their recovery.
However, I know that when I started out in ‘high level’ sport I had no clue how to fuel myself properly. The media bombards us with a lot of ‘facts’ about what we should and shouldn’t be eating and the more I learn about nutrition, the more I realise that: a) half of the stuff isn’t really true and b) it really doesn’t apply to athletes.
In this section I am going to aim to help out new athletes understand how they need to be fueling their bodies so you don’t make the same mistakes I did.
NB: I am not a registered nutritionist. I’m just a gal who’s done some research and started an online course. Please take what I say with a pinch of salt (yay, electrolytes!) and if you’re worried about your diet please talk to a pro.
